If you could do one thing to be more organised, I’d start with this….

I was going to start with a post with 10 tips on how to be more organised but I thought back to the start of mine and Leanda’s journey to getting organised and the truth is it didn’t go that smoothly, actually we came very close to closing the business, but there’s a big lesson in there and they say your business will keep trying to teach you lessons until you take action and this is the perfect illustration of this.

Back in 2017 I joined Leanda to ‘help her out for a bit’ because she had too much work and needed help getting organised, fast forward 3 years and we were still drowning in work and I didn’t have the time or the energy to think about how bad or non-existent our processes were, let alone have the time to fix them.

See there was one fundamental problem in the business … we weren’t charging our clients enough, therefore we took on more clients to earn more money, but our clients were alway chasing us for work rather than us chasing them for paperwork, we felt we were under performing so felt we couldn’t charge more, luckily Leanda stumbled across Jo & Zoe from the 6 figure bookkeepers’ club and enrolled into the 6 figure bookkeepers club success programme and she began to realise we were very much undercharging, Jo & Zoe gave Leanda (and eventually me) the skills and confidence to reprice all our clients, I’m not going to lie it was scary and a few clients left however the majority happily paid the increased price and finally we had enough money in the bank to pay for enough staff, so Leanda and I could start to remove ourselves from the daily processing and I could focus on putting processes in place and starting to invest time and money into time saving technology.

If you’re reading this and feeling stuck with too much work but not enough money to pay for help, then please know you are not alone, reach out to me or someone you know in the industry and ask for support, this is one of many things you are not taught on your bookkeeping and accountancy qualifications.

I would highly recommend joining Jo & Zoe - https://www.facebook.com/6figurebookkeeper you will find a community of like minded people all at different stages of their journey ready to help and support you and your business.
